Drop Camps

Drop camp hunts are not for everyone, but if you are an experienced hunter and are comfortable in remote backcountry locations, this hunt may be for you. 51 Ranch Outfitters specializes in providing drop camps in unit 17 the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness for elk, deer, and bear hunts.

51 Ranch Outfitters provides all the necessary amenities in the middle of the wilderness. Our camps are well-furnished with wall tents, cots, chairs, wood stoves, a large propane cooking stove, a complete kitchen box, and all the other gear to make you self-sufficient in the wilderness. We will provide a camp that best meets your needs.

Your adventure in the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness will begin when you fly into the backcountry Shearer Airstrip. We will meet you as you land at the airstrip in the morning, load up your gear on horses and mules, and start the 5-hour ride to camp. Lunch will be provided on the trail. Once at camp, we will go over maps and have a thorough orientation of the area.

Once your trophy is on the ground, you are responsible for field dressing, caping the animal, and getting the quarters to a trail or suitable location that we can get the pack mules to. Our packers will pack the meat to base camp where it will be hung and ready for you at the end of your hunt.
